Gurunathar’s message Moola Star #3

Gurunathar’s Divine Message -Moolam Pooja ~ 25-05-2005

There are some who are eager to ask me a few questions and obtain the answers. In spite of my repeated assurances, that those who have faith in me should have no fears, I am surprised to find they still have doubts and fears. Still, I understand that perhaps I should not perceive others from my point of view. By way of correcting myself, I reply to an elderly lady who thought of asking me a question. Everything is God’s action. The beginning and end will be attained without difficulty. I am happy to perceive the measures that have been adopted to solve the problems and your sincere performance of prayers.

There are some who have fears regarding their health. They are advised to continue to take medicines they are now taking and everything will become all right. One person feels that in spite of his practicing meditation, chanting mantras, performing good religious and social acts he seems to be in the same situation as before. To this person I say: “Dear one, we are all together on the same path. I am a little ahead of you and you are a little behind me. That is the only difference.” Those who are on the spiritual path are assured of liberation. The moment of salvation is according to your destiny. For example, as I have mentioned before, if we sow crops we can’t force them to grow by pulling them. On the other hand, it will only destroy them. You have to take your time in achieving your objectives through Meditation and Karma yoga methods. A mental attitude of hurrying is not suitable for spiritual advancement. Rome was not built in a day. I have mentioned this before. If this is the way for a group of buildings, let us consider and think about the number of births one has to go through and the time needed for the soul to merge with God. As a result of the good acts that you have done you are now on the spiritual path. This itself is a big advancement. There is no place here for fear or anxiety.

I hereby assure you that disease and karmic situation will go away completely. It is destined that you should go through small problems. It must be realized that this is the only way to burn one’s karma. It is destined that the karma incurred through the body has to be experienced and burnt by the body. That is what is happening now. However if we surrender everything to the Lord it would only end in good.

Gurunathar’s Message on Ashwini Star #2

Gurunathar’s Divine Message ~ Ashwini Pooja ~ 07-05-2005

One person mentally raised a doubt, “When we start a good work should we always check to see if the time is auspicious?”.

Generally, starting good work at good times has become the practice. I would say there is nothing wrong with this. Those days, good works were started during period of Kuligan and bad or inauspicious were started during periods of Raghu. This practice has now changed. Some periods during the day have been set aside for good jobs and some for inauspicious ones. Whichever the method followed, when a person performs his duties untiringly, any time is auspicious. Such a person has realized that ‘work is worship’. When he starts a good work, he does not attach importance to the auspiciousness of time. It is his mental state which is important. This is so whether the purpose of his work is personal or for the common good of others. However, tradition makes us abide by the rule of looking for a good time and this is not wrong.

This leads to another question, “Does performing work at auspicious times always yield good results?”.

This is not necessary. As mentioned before, the mental state of a person is important. It is God’s law that ‘anything done with good intention will yield good results’. Hence, looking for an auspicious time is not required. Tradition is the only justification for this practice. I reiterate that for those who believe in hard work and for those who believe in God any time is an auspicious time. This is my conclusion.

Gurunathar’s Message on Moola Star #2

Gurunathar’s Divine Message ~ Moolam Pooja ~ 28-04-2005

Nowadays there are some who are confused as to why one should go to temples to worship God when he is omnipresent. Our homes or any other place should do just as well. I would like to explain the reason.

If a temple is built according to traditional norms it will be in keeping with the “Agama Vasthu Shasthras”, because of this we see different kinds of towers. The most important factor is they are based on triangular shapes. In the western world they have made it into a science. Nowadays people write and talk about the characteristics of the pyramid. It is apt to observe that this was already known in ancient India.

For those who think it is not necessary to go to temples, I would like to remind them of something. Traditionally it was normal to get up in the morning, have one’s bath and go to the temple to pray before starting one’s daily routine. There was a reason for this. Temples which were built according to the Vasthu Shastra, with triangular formations and sanctified chakras under the idols radiate energy rays, which removed the negative vibrations in those who sit in the temple even for a short while. Their health also improved greatly. Every village has at least one ancient temple.

These days’ temples are built according to modern architecture. I feel the temple built of traditional architecture are more beneficial to people. This is because every corner and every formation of the temple has been built with the idea of benefiting man. Even if an atheist were to sit on the outer courtyard or ‘praharam’ of the temple he is sure to benefit from it.

Gurunathar’s Message on Ashwini Star #1

Gurunathar’s Divine Message ~ Ashwini Pooja ~ 09-04-2005

I would like to dispel the confusion in the mind of a Person here. The question arises, that if a Person’s birth date, his horoscope and death date are decided before he is even born, and if he dies before his time has come, is this too decided beforehand?

I shall answer this here. Before a Person is born, the balance of his karma decides his birth horoscope. Along with his completing the karma of his previous birth the date and time of his death are decided. Man however does not conform only to this destiny. In this birth he can add to his karma or lessen it. Sometimes, good or bad karma can determine a premature death. If we can keep an account of the karma of this birth we can also predict such a premature death.

If you perform good karma, life can go smoothly without difficulties. If there is a rebirth, the new horoscope will be of good standing.

Gurunathar’s Message on Moola Star #1

Gurunathar’s Divine Message ~ Moolam Pooja ~ 01-04-2005

With the increasing heat of the sun, it is a time for increased sweating and discomfort. Even in this, I feel there is a lesson to be learnt. Primarily at such a hot humid time, we intensely desire a cool breeze; similarly, there should be an intense desire to see God. As this desire increases, God will manifest Himself in front of you. If our strongest desire is matched by our desire to see God, there is no possibility of His not responding. (He must come).

It has always been my wish that the name of Lord Shiva be worshiped increasingly and incessantly. If the Thirumandiram proves to be an instrument for this I shall be happy. If more people do the same I shall be very happy. This is my message for today.

“Do one job but do it well”, similarly be single minded in your devotion. You must intensify your desire to see God. Just the way we experience an intense desire to quench our thirst with water in these hot summer months, so must we desire to realize God. He will appear in front of you and grant you all the blessings.

Thirumoolar – Introduction

Thirumoolar or Thirumoola Naayanaar is one of the 63 Naayanmaars praised by Swamy Sekkizhaar and one of the celebrated 18 Siddhas. He is one of the enlightened Yogi. The history of Thirumoolar was briefly given by Nambiyaandar Nambi in his book Thirutthondar Thiruvanthaathi. Thirumoolar’s time is about seven thousand years ago. His blessed book is the Thirumanthiram which contains 3000 Songs. Thirumanthiram has been categorized as the 10th Book of the 12 Thiru Murai (Respected Ways) of Saiva Tradition.

Thirumanthiram – Introduction

Thirumanthiram is a Saiva Tradition Tamil work by Thirumoolar. It contains Nine Tantras (Philosophies) and Three Thousand Songs. On an average, each Song has four lines and each line has four words totaling to 1,92,000 words. Thirumanthiram, like Thirukkural, provides its Subject Matter in an easy to read and easily understandable fashion in short and clear texts.

Thirumanthiram provides explanations on Vedas and Scriptures. It is also praised as a Saiva Scripture. Our elders has categorized Thirumanthiram as the 10th Book of the 12 Thiru Murai (Respected Ways) of Saiva Tradition. Scholars say that Thiruvasagam is for Hymns and Thirumanthiram is for Vedas. Moreover, Thirumanthiram, which says God is Love and Love is God, is considered as the first Book of Saiva Tradition.

Thirumoolar has given three highly important proverbs that are still in use today as follows:

  1. Ondre Kulamum Oruvane Thevanum (There is only One Clan and One God)
  2. Yaan Petra Inbam Peruga Ivvaiyagam (Let the World get the same Bliss that I got from our Lord)
  3. Anbe Shivam (Love is God)

The Book of 3000 Tamil verses that he wrote about 7000 years ago was originally named as “Tamizh Moovaayiram” (Tamil 3000). However, since that Book contained so many verses of Mantras and Tantras along with lot of explanation on our Physiology and Medical needs, it was later renamed as “Thirumoolar Thirumandhiram” (Respectful Mantras by Thirumoolar).

In the Thirumandhiram verses, the verse that starts with “Ainthu Karatthinai” that praises Lord Ganesha was not originally part of the Book. It was later added by changing cultures. In Thirumoolar’s time, Saiva tradition of Hinduism did not recognize any other Gods than Lord Shiva and hence will not start any important activity, literature or book without praising him at first. The devotion of Lord Ganesh came much later in history during the time of Chirutthondar (one of the celebrated Sixty Three Naayanmaars) who was known as Paranjothi when he was a King. He went on a voyage of war against old country Vaathaabi and attained victory there. He brought the deity they devoted to most as Lord Ganesha back to Tamil Nadu along with his voyage. In those times, Lord Ganesha was not visualized with a big belly which is his celebrated appearance in modern times. The proof of his original visualization without big belly can be seen today in two places such as in Thiruvaaroor Thiyaagesar Temple and the infamous London Museum of Arts and Culture.
