Gurunather’s Divine Message—Ashwini Pooja-28-03-2009I heard a question here. “Of how many kinds are the intentions of human beings to achieve mukthi?”

I would say that as far as I know there are three groups. First the ones who desire to attain mukthi but do not put in the necessary effort. This is the ordinary level. Next, there are the ones who put in slight efforts towards achieving this end. They too are of a somewhat ordinary level. Thirdly there are those who are filled with a burning desire to achieve mukthi and put in an equal effort. This will certainly lead them to the mukthi state
.
There is not much I can add to this because achieving mukthi and gaining liberation from the cycle of births depends on each individual’s efforts. The success we achieve will be according to the degree to which we increase and intensify our efforts. This I personally know and wish to convey to you.

I would like to mention couple of things. I too heard your Guru’s talk on how a disciple should approach a Guru. It was good. Only I would add that faith is also an important trait. You trust that in the future you will get what you desire. If you are correct in your behavior towards your guru, he will bless you accordingly. You should believe that because of your complete faith in your guru you will receive all that necessary.
“Live according to your intentions”. This means always have good thoughts or intent. If your intentions are bad then automatically bad results will follow. Therefore always have good intentions and thoughts.

Gurunather’s Divine Message Ashwini Pooja Gupta 02-02-2009

I would like to answer a question: “Are not Yagnas (or Homam) a waste of money? Can we not use the money in a better manner?”
Please listen carefully to my reply: “What is used in a Yagna can never go waste. Even if God does not need any of what we offer at all, for our satisfaction we give Him a little”
I can explain this with an example. A farmer scatters seeds in a field. If we feel that these seeds could have been better used by feeding someone who was going hungry, we are wrong. Only if he sows these seeds will the farmer get a crop of rice that will feed many. Similarly we find that what we give in a small measure in a ceremony serves to earn God’s bountiful grace. By this grace many benefits are received. For example, good rain, a good crop, mental peace, material advancement are some of the blessings that comes to us. If we wish to make a equation what we receive from God is so great compared to what we give Him. This is my reply.

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Ashwini Pooja 05-01-2009

I heard a question that made me happy. I would like to answer the question. We have heard our wise persons say “God alone is truth and everything else is untruth”. So are the Vedas not eternal and not the real truth? This question needed some thought. My reply to this: The Vedas have said to have come from the fifth face of Lord Shiva which looks downward at us. God’s word like he himself is an eternal truth – so the Vedas too are eternally true. To clear the doubt in the questioner’s mind I would say, you can realize the truth through the untruth. For an example: If you saw a tiger chasing you in a dream it would seem very real at the moment. We would want to get up and run in fright. On opening our eyes we realize it is a dream. Still, at the moment we felt that it was real. Similarly, in this illusory world everything we see becomes unreal when we wake up. The only truth and reality is God. Is that not so? During our lives our experiences seem true only to become unreal when we reach the other side and we realize that God is the only truth. What we all need to know is that the Vedas come from God. We have to learn much from them to reach God. Then that state alone is the truth – for this we must always strive.

Let me answer a small question. “Why do we avoid performing auspicious functions (such as weddings) in the month of Margazhi (Dec15th to Jan 15th) ?. Another asked “Why is it called ‘Peedai’ month?

Dear one it is not an inauspicious month. It is a ‘Peedam’ month. God’s especially Mother Sakthi , are placed on a pedestal (Peedam) and worshiped. It is best if your attention during worship is not distracted by other worldly activities. If a man is told, ‘Do nothing but prayer’ he will not listen. So ‘peedam’ has become ‘peedai’ to make him avoid worldly activities. This is the sole explanation and intention. AS an example this period is called ‘mandalam kalam’, fasts and pilgrimages for Lord Ayyappa are undertaken. I ask you: can you call this inauspicious? So please do use this time for Godly activities.

I would like to answer a question .Based on what I have said someone asked, “Is it wrong to accumulate wealth?” The reply is evident in the question itself. I would say the very word ‘accumulation’ refers to something in excess of our requirements. In this Kaliyugam I understand that material possessions are a necessity. Still I would say “Keep only what u need”. If you have more your good sense is mislead to think wrongly. If you are earning in excess, use it for good work. I have never said do not work or do not save money. Keep for yourself what you need and use the rest for useful activities. This is the advice I seek to give.
Nowadays responsibilities are on the increase, and family expenses have risen. People have to travel distances to their place of work and for this they need vehicles. You need a place in which to live. After spending on all these you need to save for children. Anything you save beyond this or accumulation of jewelry only makes you constantly afraid of theft etc. Keep only what is necessary. There are so many good things on which you can spend. Often old people and children have to suffer due to lack of funds. Give it to them. Give for annadhanam this will bring benefits. It is even better if you make arrangements to give food permanently for one individual. It is very good to spend on the education of one person apart from our own children. Let us have them fed well. If you develop this practice God will certainly bless and keep you close to Him.

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Ashwini Pooja 18-07-2006

‘’I heard a good question and decided to give an explanation in this manner. The question is about our concept of ‘I and mine , our sense of identity. The question is ‘If I is equated to ego or arrogance how should we behave in our normal day to day life?’.’’
Guruji explains: when we speak about ourselves we say, ’’This is my name, this is what I do etc., whatever our identity or profession might be. How can we live in this world without such an identity? We cannot do so. ‘’Then how should we live?’’, is the question.
Gurunathar says: “There is no defect in the concept or word ‘I’. It is when our personalities or attitudes influence this concept that the flaws begin to exist. When we put ourselves on par with others we should not think ourselves superior to them. This would be wrong and become the beginning of arrogance. If we are able to recognize the presence of God in other living beings and realize their level of divinity there is no room for the growth of arrogance. Hence there is nothing wrong in our acknowledging our individual identities. For instance when I came with Lord Ganesha, it would not have been wrong to say “you are Vinayakar. I am Moolan”, because I am fully aware of His state of divinity and strength when I mention my identity.
I am superior-others are all inferior.
I am special-others are ordinary.
I am rich-others are poor.
I am a great scholar-others are ignorant.
To think in all these ways causes the growth of arrogance. It is not wrong to maintain our identity. It is the attitudes we adopt that make the difference.’’
