Gurunathar’s Message Moolam Star #73

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 27-11-2011

I would like to answer one specific question. “Has God set me aside?”. The answer is simple. God is always in front of us. However in reality we neither understand nor realize this – this is our mistake. It is not the fault of God. If we are to constantly sense the presence of God the practice is we should regularly follow some methods of worship. I would say it is foolish if you were to conclude after ten or fifteen minutes of worship. “God has now gone away from me”. A number of people have this problem. It is a mental illusion or fallacy to expect after a short period of worship that you should be able to sense the presence of God and that He should grant you darshan. Spiritual sadhana is not the work of one or two days. It is the achievement of several years of work. And this must be done without any kind of expectation – only then will it be possible for you to sense the presence of God. Do not feel downhearted to hear this for this alone is the truth. Still to render this Kaliyugam tolerable cultivate the belief that God is constantly by your side. This is the best way to seek Him. It is true that we become more dedicated in our actions and way of thinking if we believe that He is constantly with us. When our parents are with us do we not avoid undesirable actions? You must show a similar respect towards God- you may feel that he is always with you in your homes and that when you leave your homes to mingle with the outside world He comes with you. Your mistakes will then surely decrease. Your mental strength will increase and you shall achieve all that you want. I would also tell you not to regret that things have not happened as you have planned. No one should feel any such regret. Remember the saying that if everything happened the way we wished where then would you find God’s will? So accept all that has happened as His will and be contented is what I would advice.

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 03-10-2011

I shall give a small, simple reply to a question I heard, “Is it right for Gnanis to lose their tempers?”. Certainly not: however there is a curative kind of anger which is justified. Also the person who is responsible for causing this anger has done a great wrong. He or she should correct themselves or else they will find their life’s path all the more difficult.

Gurunathar’s Message Moolam Star #70

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 10-08-2011

There is something I would like to elucidate. As I have mentioned before there is no room for shyness or diffidence in carrying out devotional work for those who wish to progress on the spiritual path. As you chant or sing the names of God, hesitation to do so will not help you in any way. As you repeat the names of God over and over again the many living things around you will progress towards Mukthi as they hear you.
I see some friends mumbling their shlokas and prayers (without clearly audible pronunciation). It would be better to say it in your minds silently. One say it loud and clear or two, say it in your mind. There is a reason for this. Just the way you progress from worshiping the form to the formless so you progress from loud to silent prayer. Two aspects qualify this kind of worship. First there should be a deep silence within us and secondly, the concentration is so deep that no sound around you can penetrate and disturb you; this is how meditation should be. If such is the case whichever the sanctified place to which you go or whatever the occasion or time there need not be any hesitation in chanting God’s name or meditating. Chanting God’s name is like the modern telegraph system in establishing a connection between God and you. One moment you say his name and the next it has reached God! So whichever stage of meditation you have reached chant God’s name at least a few times before you start.

Gurunathar’s Message Moolam Star #69

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 13-07-2011

I would like to give an elucidation. “In spiritual progress is there a concept of what is clean and what is not clean or permissible? Is hygiene necessary? We find some Siddhars sitting amidst unclean surroundings do we not? Does that not mean that at their spiritual level, cleanliness is not necessity?”.
To this friend who asked this question in mind I would like to clarify: “Dear one, there is an old saying, first seek to be clean – only then can you receive the grace of God”. If you had sat in meditation for the number of years I did, perhaps you need not assiduously seek it. At that level of awareness environmental impurities do not affect them the way they affect you. Hence it can be deemed that they are constantly in a clean and a pure state. Still, for those who travel from place to place physical cleanliness becomes a must. I would say that when it comes to making offerings to God you should wash the vessels and your hands before you do so. Siddhars are at a different spiritual level and you cannot compare yourself to them because they are not conscious of their physical selves. Whatever may happen to them, they remain unaffected. You cannot claim this can you? Even for the smallest ailment you seek the assistance of a medical professional? Those who are no longer conscious of their physical state can never be unclean.
For everyone else especially those on the spiritual path it is important to pay attention to the presence of cleanliness and purity. In particular they must avoid bluffing or speaking the untruth. To escape minor situations they must avoid white lies for this creates impure speech. In addition as far as possible take only food that is Satvic. As you progress on the spiritual path, your digestive power declines. There is also the practice of conforming to food with health value. If you do not cease to be a slave to your tongue it is difficult to progress spiritually. Both self-control in food and adherence to the truth are necessary disciplines connected to the tongue. You must keep this in mind always. I would advice you to stop trying to evaluate other’s levels of cleanliness.
Do you have their talents? You do not. So try instead to just concentrate on how you as an individual can progress spiritually by following the advice of great saints, of your elders, and those who have lived before you.

Gurunathar’s Message Moolam Star #68

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 16-06-2011

There is something I would like to tell you. Some say, “Prarabdha karma never ends”. If you ask, “When you travel to other lands to avoid karmic suffering do you find that it chases you anyway?”. The answer is “Definitely so”. For instance if a person is destined to face some difficulty in at office and changes his or her employment to escape it, he or she will have to face the remaining karma. Please understand that what you need to experience you will do so in totality. Do not try to seek relief from this. However as a result of intense meditation or the chanting of mantras you can gain the ability to face anything that comes your way. This is the truth. Ascetics and saints have such mental prowess and nurture the qualities to bear with anything. You must realize that in the Kali Yuga, humans are not made in this mould and find it very difficult to achieve the mental strength of ascetics and saints.
Chanting God’s name constantly will give you mental strength and help you nurture the quality to tolerate anything. It is a wrong notion to think that by traveling from one place to another you can escape karma. You must understand that prarabdha karma is of your own personal doing and will always pursue you. Instead pray for the necessary power and strength as well as the mind to face anything that happens. I assure you that if you keep chanting God’s name everyday, everything will turn out just fine!

Gurunathar’s Message Moolam Star #67

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 20-05-2011

I would like to answer a question. “Unless there is an abundance of Divine grace, worldly thoughts cannot be prevented” – this is the truth. It is also said, “To get rid of these worldly thoughts we need the grace of God!” One person mentioned that there seems to be a contradiction here. (Gurunathar says, whichever path we may take, ultimately we need to surrender to God. You have to withdraw from worldly activities and thoughts step by step if you are determined to earn Divine grace).
To become one with great purity we have to reach that level of purity. This is a necessity. To gradually withdraw from worldly affairs it is clear that we need God’s grace. Every day we must pray to God for this grace. We realize that to reach His feet we need His grace. We may feel disheartened at being entangled in such a situation. But God in His mercy shall lift you from this state to one of purity. Of this I have no doubt. So many great spiritual seekers and Gnani’s have been householders. Let your minds be determined. If you pray to God without this determination He will certainly not come to you. Most important you must have single minded devotion towards God, in your heart must say, “I do not want anyone apart from God”. This cannot come in a day. It will come step by step. The person who brought this question here is already at a good level. You may ask, “Why then does this doubt arise?”. That is because the last steps are often the most difficult.

Gurunathar’s Message Moolam Star #66

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 22-04-2011

While you come to be here, it is normal for problems to come and be resolved. I would like to emphasize that it’s not the God’s who bring on or resolve the problems. When the time comes for KARMA TO BE COMPLETED, ONE MAY HAVE TO EXPERIENCE A LITTLE SUFFERING. To illustrate this, a proverb comes to my mind ‘Mullai Mullinal eduthal vendum’ (A thorn can be removed only by another thorn). When you have caused others pain, you too have to suffer the same pain is the law of Karma. Please do not blame God for this.
Before going to other explanations, I would like to answer a question that someone asked. “Where does fear come from? How do we get rid of this?”. Generally fear comes from our having to face the unknown. I shall give you an example: When you learn to ride a two wheeler even a stone in your path makes you get off the vehicle, sometimes even fall and get hurt. However, after you have learnt to ride, the fear goes and you are confident. Similarly children, when they learn to walk, have to fall several times before they get up and later even start running. When they do this they forget all their falls do they not? Similarly fear goes with acquiring knowledge. My advice would be when you are afraid of something go back and face it.
When you repeatedly do this the fear will go. Even here I find some people who go and hide out of fear. Because of fear some actions are not performed. I would like you to understand if you do this you are the ones who will suffer. It is my point of view that if we keep doing what you are afraid of the fear will vanish. It is also my request to deliberate before you act. Because of what I have said, don’t try to hold a snake in your hand. In our day to day life youngsters feel nervous about attending exams, perhaps doing maths or attending interviews for jobs. They cannot afford to sit at home and avoid them. If you overcome this habit you will become fearless. The maximum anyone can do is to take your life. If you surrender this life to God, then what is there to fear? Keep this in mind and engage in action.

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 26-03-2011

Today I heard a question, “What is prayer?”. Do not think it is an ordinary question. Generally our prayers are:
“God give me this
God please give me that or
Please take this away from me”.
This is how we pray but this is not how we should pray. “God please let everything happen as is best for me”. Many forget to say this and even seem to bargain with God. This is very wrong, because the Supreme One does not need anything from us. If you stop to think about it you will realize that it is indeed by God’s grace that your soul is contained in your body. You also very much need His grace when your soul leaves this body and needs to ascend to a higher state. So when you pray to God it is good to request of Him “Please do whatever is best for me”.

Gurunathar’s Divine Message Moolam Pooja 26-02-2011

“Why should I waste my time in gaining spiritual knowledge through association with human beings when God Himself is present?”.
I find this question being asked frequently. God does not come to us directly to give ‘upadesh’ or spiritual guidance. Please understand this truth first. To get God’s guidance directly you need to practice many spiritual austerities and make great sacrifices. In this Kaliyuga, when God wishes to reach us He does so through particular people or incidents and experiences you may have. This guidance can come through sincere spiritual seekers or great souls. Definitely you can listen to them. However it is difficult to decide one’s gurus. So first prepare yourselves so that, when the time comes you are ready and receptive to guidance. When you reach this state of readiness, because of God’s grace, as I have mentioned before, you will find a good guide. I reiterate the same now.
